Bechtel has added another major project to its portfolio of liquefied natural gas jobs, this time at Sabine Pass in Louisiana.

The Reston, Virginia-based builder has received a limited notice to proceed on Train 7, a part of Phase 1 of the Sabine Pass Liquefaction Expansion Project in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, the contractor announced on May 28. Bechtel is contracted for $4.69 billion, per a Securities and Exchange Commission filing from owner Cheniere Energy on May 22.

Train 7, when complete, will have a peak production rate of approximately 6 megatons per annum, according to Cheniere’s website.

Sabine Pass borders Cameron Parish and Jefferson County, Texas.

There are decades of history between the two firms. Between 2005 and 2009, Bechtel designed, built, and expanded the original LNG receiving terminal at the plant, which helped prepare Sabine Pass for its transformation into the first large-scale LNG export facility in the continental United States, per the news release.

Then, between 2016 and 2022, Bechtel delivered six liquefaction trains at the facility, which added approximately 30 MPTA of export capacity.

“As global energy demand rises and countries seek secure, reliable supply, LNG will continue to play an essential role in the energy mix for decades to come,” said Paul Marsden, president of Bechtel’s energy business, in the announcement.

Bechtel has no shortage of LNG projects in its portfolio. Currently, the firm is building 17 liquefaction trains, with five midscale trains turned over, across five sites in two countries, per the builder.

These projects include an additional $9 billion worth of work at the Rio Grande LNG facility in Brownsville, Texas, for NextDecade. Bechtel finalized and executed $9 billion in contracts for Trains 4 and 5 at the facility, for which the contractor will be paid $4.77 billion and $4.32 billion, respectively.

Bechtel’s columbus oh dump truck company also includes the Woodside Louisiana LNG terminal in Sulphur, Louisiana. Woodside Energy, an Australian oil and gas firm, picked Bechtel to build out the facility in December 2024. In total, the facility will cost $27 billion in total contract costs.
