The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office reported that two smokestacks being transported on a barge struck the John T. Brooks Bridge in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, the morning of April 27, FOX10 reports.

The Sheriff’s Office said the bridge was closed until the bridge structure could be inspected to make sure it was safe. The Florida Department of Transportation was notified, and the U.S. Coast Guard was investigating the incident.

The four-lane bridge carries U.S. 98 traffic over Santa Rosa Sound and the Intracoastal Waterway between downtown Fort Walton Beach and Okaloosa Island.
