The U.S. Senate has voted 95 to 1 to confirm Nicole R.

Nason as the administrator of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).

Nason previously served as Assistant Secretary for Administration at the State Department. She was the Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration from 2006 to 2009 and also served as the U.S. Department of Transportation’s assistant secretary for government affairs.

Prior to her confirmation, the Eno Center for Transportation reports that Sen. Tom Carper (D-DE) said Nason would be inheriting challenges “greater than all her predecessors,” which include funding, debt, climate change, safety, and access.

“The challenges are great, but so are the opportunities,” Carper added, according to the news agency. “More than hope, I believe Ms. Nason will be a partner with Congress.”

“PCA congratulates Nicole Nason on her confirmation to be Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration,” said PCA President & CEO Mike Ireland in a press release. “Her experience makes her an excellent choice to bring attention to the much-needed investment in the nation’s transportation system.”
